Groupon home improvement scam hits southeast Wisconsin

CREATED 9:25 PM - UPDATED: 10:05 PM

SHOREWOOD - An online coupon to clean some dusty ducts turns into a disaster for a Shorewood woman.

Heidi Stangl purchased a deal on Groupon for some cleaning, but when the contractor Home Service Guys showed up, they said it would cost $105 more.

Stangl agreed to the extra money, but when her credit card bill came it was for nearly $1000 more.

The employee of Home Service Guys used a tablet computer with a card reader to swipe her credit card.

'It was as clear as day, $105.' She said.

'I signed with my finger, he said he would email me a copy of my receipt right away.' Stangl added.

The receipt never came.

The Better Business Bureau has logged a lot of complaints about the Indiana company and rated them an 'F'.

Stangl has disputed the charge with her credit card company, but Home Service Guys said the amount of the charge is correct.
