News Briefs: See what's new in home improvement

The 51st Livingston County Home and Garden Show takes place this weekend at the Howell High School Fieldhouse, 1200 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell.

The event features ideas and vendors from the realms of home improvement, gardening, landscaping, outdoor trends and supplies; a fine arts show and sale; cash-and-carry shopping; hand-crafted items; a community resource fair; food; new vehicles from local auto dealers; children's activities; and prizes and giveaways. One admission ticket-holder will win $500 in Home Show Bucks each day. Free health checks and free document shredding will be available. Master gardeners will be on hand to answer questions on home gardening projects.

The show is open from 5-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults or $5 for seniors 60 and older. Children and students are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Donations being taken for benefit sale

Donations for the community-based garage sale that will benefit the Maison Z. Wilkinson scholarships will be accepted next weekend.

Donations for the sale will be received from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fowlerville Mini Storage, 7074 E. Grand River Ave. in Handy Township.

The sale will be held March 29 at Fowlerville Junior High School, 7677 Sharpe Road in Fowlerville. The event will include a silent auction and bake sale.

Eight-year-old Maison Wilkinson of Fowlerville died in 2006 after a Waste Management Inc. truck backed up and inadvertently ran him over.

Maison loved soccer and, in 2007, his immediate family and friends established the Maison Z. Wilkinson Memorial Fund in his honor, which provides a college scholarship to a senior soccer player at Fowlerville High School.
