Many people start the new year with a vow to 'get organized.' If you maintained your momentum this far into January, congratulations! You're exceptional; most fledgling organizers don't make it past the first two weeks.

Even if you've sorted junk drawers and cleaned out closets, a few more areas need some organizational TLC, too. Add these suggestions courtesy State Farm Insurance to your January to-do list:

* Organize your home improvement files. Review product warranties (to see if they've expired) and manuals (for tips you may have overlooked). Check on recommended maintenance for furnaces, equipment, appliances and tools. Mark your calendar to track scheduled upkeep and service.

* Inspect furniture, cabinets and vanities for loose knobs, pulls and hinges to make sure everything is in good working order. Tighten or repair as necessary. Lubricate squeaky door hinges with lightweight machine oil. Free sticky doors by trimming edges or shimming hinges with thin pieces of cardboard. Make a list of repairs to tackle later - and add those to your calendar, too.

* Take stock of what you've got. Make a room-by-room inventory of your house. In the event of fire, flood or other disaster, that list will be important in filing an insurance claim. Save receipts for valuable home purchases and for work you have done to upgrade the interior or exterior of your home. Back up your inventory on a CD so you can get it even if your computer is destroyed; store the CD and a printout in a fireproof safe or in a safe deposit box along with other important papers. Photographs or video of your possessions also can be helpful.
